Generation I Francis Finch
A Francis Finch came to Virginia 8 Apr 1663, brought by Thomas Hanckes, and a Thomas Finch came to Virginia 19 Jun 1663, brought by George Morris [Nugent, “Cavaliers and Pioneers”]. Those who brought them were compensated by land grants. The land grants may have then been sold to the immigrants. Thomas probably was the son of Francis, and the grandson of Francis Fynch, a cloth maker of London, although there is no definite proof of this. A Francis Fynch, cloth maker of London and (widower of Joyce Fynch), made a will 2 Mar 1673/4 shortly before his death, which mentioned a son, Francis Finch now in Virginia, with no mention of Thomas [Finch Families of Dixie]. Thomas and Francis Finch paid taxes on 300 acres of land in New Kent County, Virginia, in 1664.
